About Us

The Women's Press Club was formed in 1966 by a small group of women journalists committed to supporting women in the communications profession. Today, our members include women and men. They work for radio and television stations, newspapers, government agencies, nonprofit organizations and private companies. They are also freelance writers, entrepreneurs and students.

The Women's Press Club year runs from September 1 through August 31. The club offers programs that cover everything from professional development to issues affecting the industry. Each year culminates with the Annual Dinner, during which the club honors outstanding women in the field. Awards for "Media Person of the Year" and "Excellence in Career Achievement" are presented, along with inductions to the club's Hall of Honor, which recognizes distinguished women in the field who have paved the way and shaped the profession.

Our Mission

The mission of the Women's Press Club is to:

  • Foster high standards of excellence in the field of communications through professional development and recognition;
  • Promote camaraderie among communications professionals; and,
  • Conduct educational and philanthropic activities.
